Any City of South Miami native should read this title and think “That’s not that hard, I can catch plenty of those in my front yard!” Yet, you would be gravely mistaken, for Peacock in this sense, refers to the Peacock Garden Cafe, as in Jaguar’s second restaurant in Coconut Grove. The cafe, named after the Peacock family who helped create the area (it’s why they also have a park named after them), holds a rumor that Julia Tuttle and Henry Flagler hashed out the railroad deal in that very spot! (Sorry, I may have just finished watch Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix!)
The Catch
I highly recommend the Seafood Platter. Substituting the jasmine rice for mashed potatoes, we also decided to balance out our meal with a side of seasonal vegetables. Warning: taking a dive into this plate will leave you wet – salivating the next time you think about it. With buttery scallops that were perfectly seared, exquisitely seasoned shrimp and a filet of snapper, dressed in a handsome green-striped suit of salsa, our tummies and palates were left filled and happy. Although there are mussels that are included with this dish, they were not our favorite and they were in much need of a flour bath to remove the brininess. It’s OK, because the mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables more than made up for them with their perfect execution.
Best part about all of this – gluten free! They definitely receive our GF stamp of approval for taste!
