Southern Comfort Food: Whisk

/ / Food, Lifestyle

This week’s Miami hot spot is Whisk! I love this place so much because the food is amazing Southern Comfort style food. In fact, my wife and I even had them cater our wedding! So, there is definitely that intrinsic value to Whisk as well.

Cozy Atmosphere

As mentioned, the best way to describe the food at Whisk is Southern Comfort. We first were attracted to the restaurant on a quest for fried green tomatoes. Tucked behind a strip mall on 56th avenue, the location just adds to the overall cozy ambience of the restaurant. Although this does make parking a premium commodity, it is well worth the hassle. Relatively recently, they have attempted to assist with this customer frustration by allocating a few spaces to a valet attendant and company.

Decor

Keeping with their food theme, the decor of the restaurant further amplifies and exudes their comforting style. By using contrasting elements, they manage to blend the best of both worlds – modern cottage style with country home. You feel welcomed, like a big hug, every time you come in. The amiable personality of the host, as well, doesn’t hurt!

Dining

This is a place that will always hold a special place in our hearts. And no, the BBQ pulled pork sandwich is not gluten free. HOWEVER, the shrimp salad is, as well as several other items on the menu that have been conveniently labeled.

Of course, we always sample each other’s food, so I can say that the shrimp was cooked to perfection! Each bite was soft and tender, and had just enough crunch to eat from the outside sear. The BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich is one of the most sold food items, according to our waiter, and I can tell you why!

The combination of the sweet tomatoes, with the crunch and slight tanginess of the coleslaw and the sweet spice of the pork is spectacular! It’s so great, my wife was making fun of me for eating the sandwich with a fork and knife. What she didn’t know was that I was just ensuring the construction of every bite! Accompanied by homemade sweet potato chips, sprinkled with Parmesan, the crunchy delights were gone before I knew what happened!
